Zambrano reports to Mesa

Pitcher Carlos Zambrano arrived Thursday at the Cubs’ spring-training facility in Mesa, Ariz., and threw 25 pitches on the side, according to general manager Jim Hendry.
Cubs general manager Jim Hendry didn’t seem concerned Thursday about the tepid vote of confidence he got Sunday from new team owner Tom Ricketts.
The owner sounded an ominous tone about the general manager’s future this past weekend. The general manager gave the field manager a vote of confidence but sounded resigned to a lost season.

Lou Piniella’s Cubs always have been a second-half team. The numbers from his first three seasons show it. But Piniella’s Cubs never have been this far underwater to start a second half, and it seems as if only a tsumani could lift their boat. ”I’d like to see us get off to a great start,” general manager Jim Hendry said Thursday.
